Dharmanagar, September 18 : A woman was seriously injured in a clash in North Tripura’s East Phulbari area on Thursday following a dispute over the repayment of a loan of Rs 50,000 allegedly taken eight years ago.
The injured woman, Shukkurjan Bibi, is undergoing treatment at Dharmanagar District Hospital.
According to the complaint, her close relative Zakir Hossain had borrowed around Rs 50,000 from her in two instalments before leaving for Bengaluru. The money was allegedly not repaid despite repeated requests over the past eight years.
The dispute reportedly resurfaced on Thursday following the death of Zakir Hossain’s mother. Shukkurjan Bibi allegedly demanded repayment of the outstanding amount while the funeral was being conducted near Tukbazalai Par Mosque.
An altercation subsequently broke out, during which Zakir Hossain’s brother Zahir Hossain and three other brothers allegedly assaulted her, according to the complaint.
Shukkurjan Bibi alleged that she was beaten and that the accused also attempted to molest her. She further claimed that her gold chain and mobile phone were taken during the incident.
Fire service personnel rescued the injured woman and initially took her to Kadamtala Community Hospital. She was later shifted to Dharmanagar District Hospital after her condition deteriorated.
Police from Churaibari police station reached the area after receiving information about the incident and initiated an investigation.
Tension was reported in the area following the clash. Police are examining the allegations and circumstances surrounding the incident.
