Agartala, October 3: The body of a man was recovered from Dashamighat pond in Ghoshpara area of Lichubagan here on Saturday, triggering concern among local residents.
The deceased was identified as Rupak Pal, a resident of the area. Preliminary information suggests that he might have drowned while taking a bath in the pond. Family members said he was known to consume intoxicants, raising the possibility that he may have entered the water while under the influence.
According to local residents, Rupak’s body was spotted in the pond following which police were informed. A police team reached the spot and recovered the body.
Rupak’s brother said he used to work regularly and lived with his family. He did not have a family of his own and stayed with his brothers. At times, he stayed at home and at other times remained outside.
The family said Rupak frequently visited the pond to bathe. They suspect he may have drowned accidentally while bathing in an intoxicated state. The family, however, could not confirm how he fell into the pond.
Police arranged to send the body for post-mortem examination and started an investigation into the death. A case of unnatural death has been registered, police said. The exact circumstances surrounding the death will be established after the investigation.
