Agartala, September 15: Amtali police have arrested three persons in connection with a series of alleged thefts in Agartala and adjoining areas.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rabiul Mia, Shamim Mia and Tinku Sarkar. Police said the trio was detained during an operation near the Amtali bypass following information about their suspected activities.
Amtali police station officer-in-charge Rana Chatterjee said the arrests followed surveillance during night patrols and subsequent information received by the police.
According to police, the three suspects are allegedly linked to thefts from houses and vehicles parked along roads in different parts of Agartala and nearby areas. Police also said cases involving property-related offences had previously been registered against some of the accused at different police stations.
Police said tools allegedly used for breaking locks and doors were recovered or identified during the investigation. The suspects are also being questioned over alleged theft of vehicle batteries.
Police further said they have received information about the involvement of other persons in the alleged thefts. Efforts are underway to identify and trace them.
The three accused were produced before a court with a request for three days of police remand. Investigators are questioning them to establish their alleged links with other theft cases in Agartala and surrounding areas and to gather information about other members of the group.
