Belonia, September 15: The South Tripura district administration reviewed arrangements for the upcoming Village Council elections at a meeting held at the Belonia Circuit House on Tuesday.
District Magistrate and District Election Officer Mohammed Sajjad P and Superintendent of Police Maria Krishna C attended the meeting, along with ADM, ASP, SDPOs, sector officers, TSR personnel, BSF officials, BDOs and other officials involved in the election process.
Officials reviewed arrangements at polling stations, security measures, law and order, polling procedures and vote counting. Measures to ensure a peaceful voting process and a secure environment for voters were also discussed.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the District Magistrate said polling would be held on September 28, with counting scheduled for October 5. He said the administration had put the necessary arrangements in place for both processes.
Police, TSR, CRPF, BSF and SSB personnel will be deployed for election security. The administration also plans to bring in 10 additional companies of security forces from outside the district, according to the District Magistrate.
South Tripura has 70 Village Councils with a total of 540 seats. Candidates have been elected unopposed in 46 seats, leaving the remaining seats for polling on September 28.
The administration said security and law-and-order measures had been put in place across the district to facilitate the polling and counting process.
