Belonia, Oct 2: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura will formally begin on October 27, 2026, South Tripura District Magistrate Mohammad Sajad P said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of the South District Magistrate’s office, Sajad outlined the SIR process and urged voters not to be confused or concerned about the exercise, describing it as a regular electoral roll revision process.
According to the revised schedule issued by the Election Commission of India, January 1, 2027, will be the qualifying date for the revision.
The District Magistrate said that if a voter’s name is marked as “unmapped” during the SIR process or any discrepancy is found, the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO) will visit the voter’s residence to collect the required documents. The documents will then be uploaded to the Election Commission’s portal and placed before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for consideration.
Special help desks and camps will also be set up to assist voters, particularly people living in night shelters, workers, economically disadvantaged persons, homeless people and other eligible citizens. Adequate facilities will be arranged based on local requirements, he said.
Sajad said new voters and those whose names have been deleted from the electoral rolls would also be able to apply to the ERO through the continuous updating process. The Chief Electoral Officer, District Election Officers and EROs have been directed to conduct special drives to facilitate the enrolment of eligible citizens.
As per the schedule discussed at the press conference, preparations, training and printing of electoral rolls will be carried out from October 27 to November 5, 2026. From November 6 to December 5, BLOs will conduct door-to-door verification of voters’ details.
Draft electoral rolls will be published as part of the process between December 12, 2026 and January 10, 2027, along with rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations. The claims and objections period will run from December 11, 2026 to February 9, 2027.
Following the notice process and disposal of claims and objections, the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on February 15, 2027.
The EROs will also accept applications for the subsequent qualifying dates of April 1, July 1 and October 1, 2027.
The District Magistrate appealed to all eligible citizens to remain aware of the revised SIR schedule and extend necessary cooperation to BLOs during the door-to-door verification process.
