Agartala, September 20 : Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Saturday targeted the BJP-led state government over the delay in holding Village Committee elections and appealed to voters to support Left Front candidates in the upcoming polls.
Chaudhury addressed separate meetings in support of Left Front candidates in the East Sabroom and Ratan Muni Village Council areas of Sabroom subdivision.
He alleged that the prolonged delay in holding the elections had deprived people in rural areas of their democratic rights and said the government was compelled to hold the polls following court intervention.
“Literally, the BJP has no right to seek votes,” Chaudhury said. He also raised issues concerning the problems faced by people in rural areas and called for greater focus on their interests and development.
Appealing to voters to support Left Front candidates, Chaudhury said their victory would help safeguard the interests of rural people and promote development in the areas. Local Left Front leaders, candidates and party workers were present at the meetings, which were part of the party’s campaign and public outreach ahead of the elections.
