Agartala, 17 September : Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday said that no section of society would be left behind in the development process under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He was speaking at the 76th Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for senior citizens and Divyangjan, organised at South Taranagar Gram Panchayat in Mohanpur under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) and Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) schemes of the Government of India.
Nath said persons with disabilities need empowerment and opportunities to become self-reliant rather than sympathy. He highlighted the term Divyangjan as reflecting their dignity and abilities and stressed the need for greater social sensitivity and collective responsibility to ensure that government welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries.
Highlighting various initiatives of the Union government, the Minister referred to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He said Jan Dhan accounts have helped beneficiaries receive government assistance directly, while Ujjwala has expanded access to LPG connections and Swachh Bharat has focused on sanitation and cleanliness.
Nath also referred to government initiatives in housing and drinking water, saying these measures were aimed at improving the living conditions of ordinary citizens.
Reiterating the government’s focus on inclusive development, he said senior citizens and Divyangjan must also receive the benefits of welfare schemes and remain an integral part of the development process.
