Agartala, October 9 : Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed officials to expedite the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed medical college at Jolaibari in South Tripura and take steps to begin work at the earliest.
The project, proposed under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), was reviewed at a meeting at the State Secretariat on Friday. The proposed college is planned around the existing Shantirbazar District Hospital.
Chief Minister’s Secretary Kiran Gitte presented the project plan, infrastructure requirements and the hospital’s current status. Saha reviewed the proposal and stressed the need for coordinated planning to develop the medical college and upgrade the existing hospital.
He said the project should also support the planned development of Jolaibari, with facilities to provide a conducive academic environment and improve the overall development of students. He suggested including a yoga centre, auditorium, football ground and indoor badminton hall, along with adequate amenities for students, doctors and other staff.
Saha stressed that the institution should have modern, scientifically planned infrastructure, with equal attention to medical education, healthcare delivery, hospital facilities and patient needs.
The meeting also discussed expanding the capacity and services of Shantirbazar District Hospital. The chief minister called for the hospital’s upgradation to be coordinated with the medical college project.
He urged the departments concerned to complete and submit the DPR promptly to facilitate the next stage of implementation.
Minority Welfare Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, department director Nirmal Adhikari, the South Tripura district magistrate and senior officials from the departments concerned attended the meeting.
