Bishramganj, September 12 : The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) Bishramganj Division Committee on Saturday held a press conference to explain its decision to withdraw nominations filed for the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections.
The press conference, held in Bishramganj, was attended by IPFT Bishramganj Division president Uttam Debbarma, youth organisation president Bikash Debbarma, Swapna Debbarma and Ramnarayan Debbarma. The leaders outlined the reasons behind the withdrawal of nominations after their candidates had initially filed papers for the VC polls.
According to the IPFT leadership, the decision was taken with the larger interests of the Tiprasa community and the protection of their identity and rights in mind. They said the IPFT had been campaigning for the protection of Tiprasa identity and interests for a long time.
The leaders also stressed the importance of the demands associated with Bubagra and the broader interests of the Tiprasa community. They said their primary concern was the preservation of Tiprasa identity and rights, even while taking into account the interests of the party.
At the press conference, the IPFT leaders called for the speedy implementation of a separate Tiprasa Accord, saying that concrete steps should be taken by both the Central and state governments in this regard.
They maintained that the Tiprasa Accord should be finalised and implemented at the earliest in the larger interest of the community. It was against this backdrop, they said, that the Bishramganj Division decided to withdraw its nominations from the Village Committee elections.
