Dharmanagar, September 9: Three shops were reportedly burgled in the Hari Mandir Road area of Dharmanagar in a single night, triggering concern among local traders and residents over nighttime security.
According to shopkeepers, the businesses were closed as usual on Tuesday night. When they arrived on Wednesday morning, they found the locks broken and shutters damaged. Cash and other valuables were reportedly stolen. The three shops are estimated to have suffered losses worth several lakh rupees, according to the owners.
Dharmanagar Police reached the spot after receiving the information and began an investigation. CCTV footage from Hari Mandir Road and surrounding areas is being examined to identify the suspects.
The incidents have raised questions over police patrolling and surveillance in one of the town’s busy commercial areas. Traders have urged the authorities to increase nighttime patrols and strengthen CCTV monitoring to prevent further break-ins.
The latest thefts have also added to concerns over reported burglaries in different parts of North Tripura. Local traders have urged police to examine whether the Dharmanagar break-ins are linked to other recent theft cases or an organised group.
Police are yet to identify the suspects or disclose the exact value of the stolen property. Traders are seeking swift action and stronger security measures in commercial areas.
