Silchar, September 9: Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs Department and Cachar Police, seized around 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets valued at approximately ₹45 crore in Assam’s Cachar district.
The operation was conducted on September 8 near Lalpani in Cachar district as part of a crackdown on inter-state narcotics trafficking.
According to officials, the joint team intercepted a Tata truck after the driver allegedly attempted to pass through the area under the cover of darkness. During a search of the vehicle, the security personnel recovered around 1,50,000 Yaba tablets.
The team also seized a Tata truck bearing registration number MN-03 T0981 and a mobile phone.
One person was apprehended during the operation. The apprehended individual, along with the seized narcotics and other items, was handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Officials said the operation reflected close coordination between Assam Rifles, the Customs Department and Cachar Police in tackling inter-state drug trafficking.
The seizure is being viewed as a major setback for networks involved in the illegal supply of narcotics in the region. Further investigation is underway to identify the source of the drugs and their intended destination.
