Agartala, September 17: Residents of North Ramnagar under the West Gandhigram panchayat staged a road blockade on Thursday morning, protesting the alleged deterioration of the local road due to the movement of heavy vehicles operated by ONGC.
The protesters alleged that they had repeatedly brought the poor condition of the road to the attention of ONGC authorities, but no effective steps had been taken to resolve the issue. They claimed that frequent movement of heavy vehicles had further damaged the road.
According to residents, the situation becomes particularly difficult during the monsoon, when several stretches turn muddy after rainfall, making movement difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians.
The protesters demanded immediate repair of the road from in front of the Maheshkhala Gas Office to the Chinta Aharan Debnath Anganwadi Centre in North Ramnagar. They also called for a long-term solution to prevent further deterioration.
Some residents warned that the agitation would continue until concrete steps are taken to repair the road.
