Agartala, September 15: A domestic worker was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a gold chain and cosmetic items from a house in the Akhaura Road area.
A 12-gram gold chain, estimated to be worth around Rs 2 lakh, along with the stolen cosmetic products, was recovered from her possession.
West Police Station OC Sanjit Sen said the theft was reported by Akhaura Road resident Priti Das Chowdhury, who lodged a written complaint following the incident.
Acting on the complaint, personnel from the Battala outpost began a probe and detained a woman working as a domestic help in the area. During questioning, the stolen items were recovered from her, according to the authorities.
The accused was scheduled to be produced before a court on Tuesday.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved in the theft.
