Agartala, October 3: Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday described the BJP panel’s victory in the Bar Council election as an important development for democracy and a significant success for the party.
Saha said the Bar Council was an important institution and credited voters for placing their confidence in the BJP-backed candidates.
The election was seen as a challenge for the BJP, given the party’s repeated defeats in earlier contests in court premises, Saha said. Seven candidates from each side contested the election, while another candidate associated with the opposing side was also in the fray.
“Voters understood the situation and placed their trust in the BJP candidates,” Saha said, while congratulating the elected candidates and all those who supported them.
The Chief Minister described the result as a “kickstart” for the party’s activities in the days ahead. He expressed hope that the outcome would be followed by similar successes in other areas.
With the 2028 Assembly elections in view, Saha said the party would seek to maintain the momentum of the recent victory across different levels.
The Bar Council election result comes as the BJP seeks to strengthen its presence among professional groups and in institutions where it has faced electoral challenges in the past.
