Agartala, September 22: Two youths from Dhanpur, identified as Chiranjit Shil alias Gedu and his associate Yasin Mia, were detained by the BSF with yaba tablets and later handed over to police, sources said.
The two were subsequently taken to Jatrapur police station, where they are currently being questioned in connection with the alleged drug seizure.
Sources said allegations had earlier surfaced against Shil after the BSF reportedly recovered a pistol from his residence. At the time, claims were made that political influence was being used to seek his release. No statement from the persons concerned has been received on the allegation.
Local sources also claimed that a similar situation arose after the two were detained around midnight on Monday. Shil was also reportedly arrested in connection with an NDPS case in 2023 and had spent time in jail, they said.
Police are now questioning the two in connection with the yaba seizure. Further legal action will be decided after the investigation, officials said.
The allegations that influential political quarters are attempting to intervene in the case could not be independently verified.
