Teliamura, September 15: Four youths were handed over to Teliamura police on Tuesday following allegations of theft and drug-related activities in the West Hawaibari Kuki Colony area.
According to local residents, two youths were detained early in the morning over alleged involvement in drug-related activities. Residents claimed that questioning led to the names of a local youth, identified as Kalu, and his brother. The two were subsequently detained, bringing the number of youths held by residents to four.
Residents also claimed that containers suspected to contain drugs were found in the possession of the youths. The incident led to tension in the area.
The four youths were later handed over to Teliamura police. Officers reached the area after receiving information about the incident and took them into custody.
Police have started an investigation into the allegations and the materials reportedly recovered. Officers are also examining the circumstances surrounding the detention of the youths, including reports that some members of the crowd assaulted them.
Local residents said theft and drug-related activities had been a concern in the area for some time. Police said the allegations against the four youths, the nature of the recovered materials and their alleged involvement in such activities will be established through the investigation.
