Kailashahar, September 14: An 11-year-old Class VI student was allegedly beaten with a cane and bamboo stick at Barkhala Madrasa in Kailashahar after he failed to answer a teacher’s question, prompting his family to file a written complaint with the police.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 12. The student, Zubair Ali, son of Manaf Ali, was allegedly beaten by teacher Junel Ahmed and subjected to humiliating punishment, including being forced to keep his head under a table and walk around the madrasa grounds on his knees while holding his ears.
The family alleged that Zubair was also threatened not to disclose the incident. After noticing injuries on his son, Manaf Ali took him to a government hospital and contacted the madrasa authorities.
According to the family, the authorities promised to discuss the matter on September 13, but no meeting was held. Manaf Ali subsequently lodged a written complaint at Kailashahar police station.
The family alleged that even several hours after the complaint, no case had been registered and no action had been taken against the accused teacher. Another teacher, Mushlak Uddin, has also been named in the complaint for allegedly being present during the incident but failing to intervene.
The student’s family and local residents have demanded an impartial investigation and strict legal action if the allegations are proven.
