Agartala, September 14: A jewellery shop in Kali Bazar under the jurisdiction of Bamotia Police Outpost was allegedly broken into after thieves cut through the tin roof and stole around 80 tolas of silver ornaments along with cash. The incident has triggered concern among traders and residents over security in the market at night.
The theft reportedly took place at Amrit Debnath’s jewellery shop. The owner closed the shop as usual on Sunday night and returned home. During the night, unidentified thieves allegedly cut open the tin roof, entered the shop and took away silver ornaments and cash before fleeing.
On Monday morning, Debnath found the roof damaged and the shop in disarray when he arrived to open the premises. News of the theft soon spread, drawing traders and local residents to the spot.
Questions have been raised over the market’s night security arrangements, as a night watchman is reportedly deployed in the area. Traders have questioned how the thieves managed to enter the shop through the roof without being detected.
The incident has caused concern among local traders and residents, who have called for stronger night-time security in the market. Police have started an investigation and are working to identify those involved and recover the stolen property.
