Agartala, September 11: Tripura and Mizoram have held preliminary officials-level talks to address their long-pending border dispute, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said on Friday.
Saha said he had earlier discussed the issue with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and proposed direct talks between the two states to find a solution. Lalduhoma had agreed to the proposal and expressed his willingness to visit Agartala for discussions.
Before a meeting between the two Chief Ministers, officials from both states were asked to hold preliminary discussions. Following the decision, a team of Mizoram officials visited Tripura and held talks with their counterparts.
“I was informed yesterday that officials from Mizoram had come. I was only told that discussions were held,” Saha said.
The Chief Minister said he had not yet received a detailed report on the issues discussed or the outcome of the meeting. He said he would comment further after receiving a complete report from the officials concerned.
Saha expressed confidence that the long-standing border issue could be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding.
“There will certainly be a solution,” he said.
The officials-level talks are being viewed as an initial step towards addressing the border dispute. Further discussions between the two Chief Ministers are expected as the process moves forward.
