Hyderabad, Sep 9 (IANS): In a new twist to the recent controversy surrounding incidents at Telangana Assembly gate, a state minister alleged on Wednesday that some BRS MLAs mistreated their women colleagues.

Minister for Panchayati Raj Danasari Seethakka claimed that women MLAs Sabitha Indra Reddy, Sunitha Laxma Reddy and Kova Laxmi were mistreated by male MLAs of their own party.

She claimed that Gangula Kamalakar and Sudheer Reddy pushed three women legislators from behind.

She said Gangula Kamalar moved forward by pushing the women MLAs. The minister also released the videos in support of her claim.

Terming the act of the BRS MLAs as ‘shameful’, she questioned what was the need for the male MLAs to push their female colleagues.

The incident had occurred during the protest by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs and MLCs on Monday, when they were stopped at the gate by the police for wearing black T-shirts with slogans.

The main Opposition party has alleged manhandling of former ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy. It has been demanding that Congress government takes action against the police personnel involved.

The police have already booked two cases against BRS MLAs including BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao and Deputy Leader in Assembly, T. Harish Rao for assaulting police personnel, obstructing them from discharging their duties and for passing inappropriate remarks against women police officers.

A woman police constable, on whose complaint a case was registered, alleged that BRS legislators allegedly made objectionable remarks against policewomen. They also took off their T-shirts to stand half-naked before women police officers.

The police constable alleged that the MLAs stood semi-naked very close to the women personnel, causing extreme discomfort and embarrassment.

The complainant alleged that the leaders forcibly tried to enter the Assembly by pushing and jostling the women constables and pushing against their chests.

Seethakka also met women police personnel injured in the alleged attack by the BRS MLAs and MLCs and enquired about their well-being.

“Misbehaving with women police on duty is highly deplorable. They showed me photos & videos and said they were touched indecently. Our Government will not tolerate any act that violates the dignity of women,” the minister posted on ‘X’.

Meanwhile, the BRS has termed the photographs as morphed and AI-generated.
