Agartala, September 10 : Fresh signs of discontent have surfaced within the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) over its alliance with the BJP and the NDA. The president of the party’s Mandai division has urged the leadership to reconsider the alliance and questioned the silence of Chief Minister Manik Saha and Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma over the alleged attack on the IPFT general secretary at Hejamara.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, the Mandai division president questioned how an IPFT general secretary could be attacked despite the party being part of the NDA alliance. He also sought to know why the Chief Minister and the Tipra Motha chief had not taken a clear position on the incident.
He claimed that a section of IPFT leaders and workers was unhappy with the party’s continued association with the NDA. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the role of the party’s top leadership, saying that stronger action was necessary to safeguard people’s interests and secure their rights.
According to him, the IPFT leadership should take a clear and concrete decision under the present circumstances and, if necessary, launch a movement on issues concerning the people. He also appealed to other party leaders and workers to speak out openly on the situation.
The remarks have once again brought the IPFT’s relationship with the BJP-led NDA and the reported internal discontent within the party into the political spotlight in Tripura.
