Delhi Police cracks down on gambling, apprehends six

New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS): Delhi’s North-East District Police have apprehended six persons in three separate cases related to illegal gambling and satta activities, recovering Rs 4,510 in cash, playing cards and other gambling material, officials said on Saturday.

The action was carried out by teams from Nand Nagri, Gokalpuri, and Welcome police stations as part of a coordinated drive against illegal gambling and betting activities in the district.

On September 11, during area patrolling, Head Constable Jitender Kumar and Constable Sanjay received information about some persons allegedly gambling with playing cards in District Park in A-1 Block, Nand Nagri.

The information was conveyed to the SHO of Nand Nagri Police Station, following which a raid was conducted at the spot on the directions of senior officers. On seeing the police team, some persons attempted to flee. However, the team swiftly apprehended two suspects.

The accused were identified as Devender, 42, son of Nain Sukh, a resident of C-Block, Sunder Nagri, and Pramod, 28, son of Damodar, a resident of Sunder Nagri.

During checking, the police recovered Rs 1,170 in cash and playing cards from their possession. An FIR, numbered 501/26 and dated September 12, was registered under Sections 12/09/55 of the Delhi Gambling Act at Nand Nagri Police Station. Both accused have no previous criminal involvement, and neither is a bad character (BC).

On September 11, Head Constable Amit and other police personnel were conducting area patrolling when they received secret information about persons allegedly involved in gambling and satta using playing cards under a flyover.

The information was immediately conveyed to the SHO of Gokalpuri Police Station, who directed the team to take necessary action. A raid was subsequently conducted at the spot.

On seeing the police team, some persons attempted to flee while mixing the playing cards and cash. The police team acted swiftly and apprehended two persons identified as Sonu, 43, son of Noor Mohammad, a resident of Gali No. 7, Gokalpuri, and Sunil, 45, son of Ramdhani, a resident of Gokalpuri.

The police recovered Rs 1,030 in cash and playing cards being used for gambling. FIR No. 208/26 dated September 12 was registered under Section 12 of the Gambling Act at Gokalpuri Police Station. Both accused have no previous criminal involvement, and neither is a BC.

On September 11 at around 4:20 p.m., Head Constables Subhash and Arun, along with Constables Vinod and Ravi, were conducting area patrolling when they received secret information about persons allegedly accepting betting money and writing betting slips at Nala Road near Pahalwan Building in Kabir Nagar.

Acting on the information, the police team conducted a raid at the location. On seeing the police, two persons attempted to flee and threw cash and betting slips on the ground. However, both were apprehended.

They were identified as Sudhir Sharma, 49, son of Ram Kumar Sharma, and Bablu Gupta, 44, son of Ram Avtar Gupta, both residents of Babarpur, Delhi.

The police recovered Rs 2,310 in cash and other satta material from the spot. FIR No. 491/2026 dated September 11 was registered under Sections 12/9/55 of the Gambling Act at Welcome Police Station.

Both accused have no previous criminal involvement, and neither is a BC.
