Ayodhya, Sep 12 (IANS): Preparations for the 10th edition of Deepotsav have intensified in Ayodhya, with more than 26 lakh earthen lamps planned to be lit on November 7. Volunteers from Avadh University will assist with the arrangements, while cleanliness, painting and beautification work at Ram Ki Paidi and other ghats is nearing completion.
Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Kumar said preparations were underway to make this year’s Deepotsav more grand than previous editions.
“Deepotsav is a major event held in Ayodhya around Diwali, and preparations are underway to make it more grand than in previous years. A meeting was held with the police, administration and other departments involved in the event,” Kumar told IANS.
“In the meeting, police personnel and everyone contributing to the event were told about their responsibilities and how they need to complete them,” he said.
Kumar said special emphasis was being laid on cleanliness and the upkeep of the ghats.
“Especially, the work related to cleanliness which is not completely done, we have also directed them to clean the ghats. We will work on making the city cleaner, carry out painting work and ensure that the city gets a beautiful look,” he said.
“We will also complete the work of making the diyas. So, we will try to make all the arrangements in a grand manner,” he added.
Deepotsav 2025 witnessed two new Guinness World Records–one for the most people performing simultaneous diya rotations and another for the largest display of oil lamps. A total of 26,17,215 diyas were lit by the Department of Tourism, district administration and Ayodhya authorities.
Every year, Ayodhya celebrates Deepotsav by illuminating the city with countless earthen lamps, recreating the traditional welcome believed to have been accorded to Lord Ram upon his return to Ayodhya.
The city will be adorned with elaborate lighting, themed decorations and cultural tableaux depicting scenes from the Ramayan.
The festival symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and righteousness over injustice.
